Canoness of Aurona- [Fantasy]

A Canoness of Aurona:
Aurona, the Goddess of Mercy, Goddess of Compassion, alternatively, "Lady of Solace,"
is my world's analogue of Bodhisattva Guanyin, she plays a role similar to that of Ilmater from the Forgotten Realms, and Andraste (Divine) from Dragon Age's universe. She's is my world's version of the Marian figure.

~
Traditional narrative of Aurona related that once the goddess herself believed to have lived a mortal life as a saintly mortal, however, in time, she dedicated her life to heal the life of others, and in dire circumstances, who would rather prefer to partake suffering on to herself, and remit those of others, rather than allow the truly innocent to suffer. She either died in a grim suffering death being fixed Y shape upon a spoked wheel, or that she was reborn after because her actions made [the supreme God of my world] weep. For which he returned her to life and allowed her to be part of his anointed grace.

But in this version, upon her anointing as my God's chosen, and at the cusp of her power, right at the gate into paradise, in the long distance across many mountain peaks, she heard a pitiable cry for help from the foggy distance. And that instead of wading through the gate of paradise, she chose to instead to turn back and walk barefoot to help the supplicant. She chose to remain in this world and alleviate the suffering of mortals and hear all who are in need.

Despite this, Aurona was given Godhood and became the Goddess of Compassion and Mercy, becoming a metaphorical Atlas- like bridge that ferries the needing souls of others to the threshold of grace at constant cost to her. By some traditions, she also became a “Midwife God,” that she was entrusted [by the Supreme God] to become sole Midwife to a new world or a new age.

She is the Goddess who hears all pleas, and in the mortal realm treats her priestesses and laybrothers to do such. Her officiated clerics are called Solaces, and are tasked with living a largely frugal life, be a balm to their community, and indiscriminately provide comfort to the sick, weak, poor and dying. They often unconditionally take in abandoned orphans. Outsiders generally regard them something between bleeding hearts and fearless masochists. But her cult at this stage is still largely monastic and kept largely to small and remote communities.

A side note is that the religion may be Dwarven in origin, noted by the fact that many Dwarven cultures has corollaries to her persona, notably including almost identical counterparts to her most loyal sub-goddess [ ] -a cloak wearing rescuer goddess who hides children and the innocents insider her giant midnight cloak from wars, feuds and horrors, even great supernatural cataclysms.

AURONA'S SYMBOLS
“Rime rose”
An early symbol of the Aurona clergy, one which represent both grace and endurance- the depicted rose reportedly grew in the most unforgiving tundra, where it perseveres in the coldest and most unhospitable biome yet still bloomed. Fire can destroy its flowers, but because of its deep body, it always reblooms the next year after destruction. This symbol again hints at the likely dwarven origin of her religion, because some of the oldest archaeological artifacts of her religion included scrolls with passages detailing her persecuted followers surviving by eating such rime roses as nourishments during long exiles as pariahs that wandered the frozen tundra.

Stylized Fruit Tree/ Pomegranate Tree
“Fruit Tree” in the populace south, especially in realms like Malmaria (a stronghold for her religion, and where her priestesses also acted as matriarchs of great clans) Aurona is some times alternately represented as a fruiting tree. The tree symbolizes both her boundless, renewing generosity, consumed and without complain, it also take on the dimension of a fertility cult, mixing elements of much older native traditions, one of the most common forms is the Pomegranate tree.

Goddess herself/ the Torch
In the far north, some form of Aurona became more literal, likely made in order to transmit her image to the myriads of illiterate migrating barbarian tribes in the region. In this literal version, the goddess herself is depicted as a graceful seated woman, flanked by a great red halo of flame behind. Or simply at times, a torch.

This is an aspect representing her Justice, and she is said to have given her paladins a sword that is a beam of pure bright light. Despite always pleading for peace in all situations, in extremely violence- prone regions, such as the Dwarven Valley of Kings, her clergy are trained with warding spells, including defensive traps, glyphs of stunning and imprisonments, and even pressure point unarmed combat. Some wielded special torch shaped wands that not only serves as torches but can also quickly mix spells together in emergency situations, serving as a torch, portable mana battery, and also spell- mixer.
